Year 5 - Science unit on insect life cycles
In Year 5, we have been learning about different life cycles including those of plants, mammals, birds, amphibians and insects. We thought it would be a great idea to purchase some caterpillars to observe the life cycle in our class. We observed them changing from small caterpillars, to larger caterpillars over around 7 days. Then, once they were ready, they formed their cocoons and began their metamorphosis. Approximately 10 days later, we caught the caterpillars emerging from their cocoons and we provided them with some tasty orange. We caught this magical moment on a time lapse video - take a look.
Once we were sure they were strong enough to survive outside, we released them back into their natural habitat.
